Avocado
Persea americana (Avocado) belonging to the Lauraceae family is a fruit-bearing tree cultivated particularly in America. The genus Persea consists of several species and the plants belonging to the genus contain numerous phytochemicals including anthocyanins, diterpenes (e.g, , cinnzeylanone, garajonone), carotenoids and others.
Traditionally, several species (e.g., Persea americana, Persea indica, Persea gratissima) have been used as anti-hypertensive, anti-allergenic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agents.
